Criminals on the prowl in Alex use [broken] beer bottles as additional lethal weapons to harm their victims.
These, apart from guns, knives and bricks, they use mainly on victims’ heads and upper body as reported numerous times in the Alex News. Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said one of the latest victims was attacked at 6am on 14 October as he crossed the bridge on Florence Mophosho Avenue, Setswetla informal settlement. Two wanted suspects approached and hit him on the head with beer bottles causing him to bleed. They also searched him and took his two cellphones worth R1 000. It wasn’t specified where he went for treatment.
