Woman arrested for concealing robber’s body in Jeppestown

Jeppestown – A girlfriend was arrested after allegedly tampering with evidence and concealing a body in a shack

A woman, believed to be a girlfriend of a suspect who was fatally wounded during a botched robbery, has been arrested for allegedly defeating the ends of justice.

On 27 November, at about 7am, a man who was walking along Jules Street in Jeppestown alleged that two men pounced on him. According to Jeppe police spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyai, one of the suspects grabbed him from behind while his accomplice pointed a firearm at the victim.

Munyai said the two suspects demanded cash from the victim who told them he did not have any. One of the suspects tried to stab him with a knife but he fought back while screaming for help.

A passerby who saw the commotion came to the aid of the victim. One of the suspects apparently shot at the Good Samaritan but he returned fire with his own firearm hitting one of the robbers. The two men managed to flee the scene.

The police were called to the scene and a knife, most probably used by the suspects, was confiscated.

Munyai said information gathered by the police led them to the nearby Princess Informal Settlement where one of the suspects was found and the body of the other suspect who had apparently succumbed to bullet wounds.

The complainant managed to identify the other suspect and he was immediately arrested.
