Man arrested for alleged murder in Joburg CBD

JOBURG – The police say the motive for the alleged murder is still unknown.

Johannesburg Central police arrested a 23-year-old man for an alleged murder at a local tavern at 1.30am on 28 December.

Spokesperson for Johannesburg Central police, Captain Xoli Mbele said it is alleged that the suspect stabbed a man (about 35 years old) several times in the upper body in the tavern.

Mbele said, “It is alleged that the victim and the suspect had an argument while drinking in the tavern and the suspect [allegedly] pulled out the knife, stabbed the victim and dragged him outside the tavern. Paramedics certified him [the victim] dead on the scene. The motive for the murder is not yet known.”

According to Mbele, police officers were contacted and found the suspect drinking inside the tavern. “Investigations are underway and he [the suspect] will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.”
