Parktown matric girl honoured for stellar results

LYNDHURST – Parktown Girls matriculant Hannah Katarina Fleisch was honored by the Gauteng Department of Education for her stellar results.

 

Parktown Girls’ High School matriculant Hannah Katarina Fleisch was honoured at a matric results ceremony on 5 January.

The event saw Gauteng MEC of Education Lesufi Panyaza handing out awards to the top performing matriculants in the province at the LSEN Nokuthula School in Lyndhurst. Fleisch was awarded a certificate of excellence for outstanding marks in history in the recent exams.

Hannah said history was her favourite subject. “It’s continuously learning and testing yourself,” she said. “You also have to reevaluate the way to write an essay and putting it forth in an argument. That along with the amazing course work.”

She achieved a phenomenal seven distinctions and added, “It was quite a process to get here because I was not the top performing student in history all the time. So I really had to work hard.”

Hannah’s final year history mark was a staggering 98 per cent. She attributed her success to the great support she received from her school along with help from her friends and family.

She said she would attend the University of Witwatersrand this year. “I will probably do a BSc in physics but I might change over to the humanities where I will do history and philosophy.
