Johannesburg Central police arrested a male suspect and charged him with theft out of a motor vehicle in the Johannesburg central business district.
The 38-year-old was arrested on 6 March on the corner of Commissioner and Eloff streets, according to Johannesburg Central Police Station acting spokesperson, Constable Constance Lelimo.
Lelimo said the owner had just parked her car and went into the nearby shops when the man stole her valuables. “When the victim got out of the shop she was approached by a security guard who informed her that her car had been broken into.
“Luckily, the security guards managed to catch the suspect and detained him in their security room until the victim came and identified her bag.”
Police were called to the scene and two car jammers and keys were recovered from the suspect.
Lelimo said an investigation is underway and the suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
