Joburg Central police arrest three suspects in stolen car

JOHANNESBURG – Two allegedly stolen firearms were found in a stolen vehicle during an arrest by the Johannesburg Central police.

 

Three suspects were arrested by the police for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle and in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on 2 July.

A spokesperson for the station, Captain Xoli Mbele said the arrest took place on the corner of Somerset Street and Albertina Sisulu Road at 4pm.

He said, “Police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties when they receive information about a suspicious navy-blue VW Jetta parked on the side of the road.

“The policemen rushed to the scene and found four occupants inside the vehicle. They asked the occupants to step out of the vehicle. They tried to run away but three were apprehended and one is still at large.”

The police recovered a bag containing two firearms and ammunition, as well as hand gloves, a hammer and balaclava.

Mbele said, “Both firearms have serial numbers and when we checked, one shows that it was reported stolen at Springs on the 20 April 2017. The other firearm shows that it belongs to a security company in Germiston.”

An investigation is underway and the suspects will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court. The North Eastern Tribune will publish a follow up soon.
