Rand Aid residents have fun in the sun

JOHANNESBURG – The residents of a number of Rand Aid villages took part in a fun-filled 2km walk.

Residents from various Rand Aid facilities recently got together and enjoyed some fresh air as they participated in a fun walk.

The residents from Inyoni Creek, Thembalami Care Centre, Thornhill Manor, Elphin Lodge and Tarentaal Village enjoyed a 2km walk from Tarentaal to Elphin Lodge on 20 July.

The residents take part in some serene qigong warm-up exercises.

Rand Aid spokesperson Cathy Grosvenor said, “Before starting off, the walkers were taken through some warm-up exercises. Debbie Christen, Rand Aid’s manager for recreational programmes, first led them in some gentle qigong, a form of tai chi, movements which are known to help with breathing and circulation.

“The route meandered through Tarentaal Village, up to the Inyoni Creek Clubhouse and then carried on along a lovely treed pathway which led to the re-erected bridge crossing over the Jukskei River. It finished at the Woodlands Lapa on the grounds of Elphin Lodge.”

On arrival at the finish line, cool drinks and delicious snacks ranging from home-made cakes, biscuits, muffins and cupcakes to assorted sandwiches and crisps were offered to the walkers.

The Rand Aid residents cross the Jukskei river over the bridge that links Elphin Lodge and Tarentaal village.

Rand Aid’s manager of the recreational programme Debbie Christen said, “The whole purpose of the fun walk was to introduce Rand Aid residents and staff to the joy of walking for health and well-being and to promote interaction, connection and a sense of community with other Rand Aid villages.”
