Murder suspect hands himself to police

JOHANNESBURG – A murder suspect handed himself over to the Johannesburg Central police.

Johannesburg Central Police arrested a 26-year-old male for murder on 6 August.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Captain Xoli Mbele said, “The suspect handed himself over after hearing that police were hot on the heels looking for him.”

Mbele said that the suspect allegedly stabbed a 27-year-old male in the upper body on the corner of Claim and Noord street on 5 August at 11.30pm.

He added, “The younger brother of the victim was walking in front of him when he heard his brother screaming. He turned to see what was happening and saw the suspect carrying a knife.”

The suspect is said to have fled the scene after stabbing the victim, who was taken to the Hillbrow Clinic where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

It is alleged that the victim and the suspect knew each other but the motive for the stabbing is not yet known.

The suspect appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 14 August and an investigation is underway.
