Spokesperson of the Johannesburg Central police Captain Xoli Mbele said, “It is alleged that three suspects robbed a 45-year-old male on the corner of Bree and Hoek streets on 25 July at 11am.

“The victim was on his way to purchase a sofa at Russell’s. One of the suspects choked him while his accomplices searched him. They took R20 000 and his cell phone before they fled the scene.”

Mbele said that one of his accomplices was arrested on 27 July following the initial incident through the help of the community patrollers which led them to the 49-year-old suspected ringleader.

The 49-year-old is in custody and will appear with his accomplice at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 30 August.
