WATCH: Cirque Infernal explodes onto Joburg Theatre stage
JOBURG – Cirque Infernal set to fire up Joburg throughout September.
Created by Danny Varanne and inspired by Frederico Fellini, Wim Wenders and Tim Burton, Cirque Infernal offers non-stop fascinating entertainment with astonishing and death-defying acts.
Varanne was previously a part of Le Grand Cirque Adrenaline which graced the Joburg Theatre stage in 2012. He headlined the motorbike act, The Globe of Death, which left the audience in awe as they watched three bikers ride inside a globe of steel at speeds of up to 65km/h, all the while trying to avoid collision.
“I am extremely excited to be returning to Joburg,” said Varanne.
Born and raised in a traditional family of performers, Varanne started as a showman in his parent’s burlesque theatre in France from an early age. Along with his brothers, he started a motorcycle daredevil show which toured the world and became internationally acclaimed.
The Guinness World Record holder has also received two awards at the prestigious Festival International Du Cirque De Monte-Carlo.
“I have developed my appreciation for gothic and circus stories into Cirque Infernal, and I can’t wait for South African audiences to witness this breath-taking production. The show features two world firsts and thrilling jaw-droppers, as well as moments of pure poetry.”
