Corrupt JMPD officer arrested after motorist reports his actions in Parktown

PARKTOWN – The corrupt officer, who has nine years of service, is being detained at the Hillbrow Police Station.

A corrupt Metro police offer was arrested at 10pm on 16 October after he allegedly demanded a R1 000 bribe from a motorist with an expired license disk at the corner of Jan Smuts and Empire Avenue in Parktown.

Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said, “The driver did not have that amount on him so the corrupt officer instructed that he should draw money from an ATM. The driver then called the JMPD 24 hour anti-corruption hotline.”

Minnaar further explained that Internal Affairs members met with the complainant and they agreed that he should give a R200 bribe so that the Internal Affairs members could make the arrest.

“The corrupt officer, who has nine years service, is being detained at the Hillbrow Police Station on a charge of bribery and corruption, and he will appear before a disciplinary hearing where he will be dismissed,” said Minnaar.

Motorists are encouraged to report corrupt JMPD officers on 080 020 3712.
