Update, 7.30pm:
A shooting took place on the M1 highway today, 22 October, near the Jan Smuts Avenue off-ramp.
According to News24, one of the victims is a member of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), more commonly known as the Hawks.
“We can confirm that the man who was shot and injured on the M1 North this afternoon is a member of the DPCI in Gauteng,” Gauteng Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu told the said publication.
It has been reported that the man was not on duty at the time of the incident and is in critical condition.
The Rosebank Killarney Gazette is awaiting further comment.
Police are searching for five suspects who opened fire on the two occupants of a vehicle on the M1 north near the Jan Smuts off-ramp in Johannesburg. Spokesperson, Mavela Masondo says the victims have been seriously wounded and taken to a nearby hospital.

MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun has confirmed that the M1 North between the Jan Smuts Avenue off and on-ramps has been closed due to an armed robbery.
According to Sun, two people have been shot and the South African Police Service is on scene.
“[Metro Police] is diverting traffic off the freeway at Jan Smuts Avenue and Empire Road,” said Sun.
Motorists are advised to avoid the route if possible. This is a developing story and details will be provided when more information becomes available.
