Johannesburg police continue to investigate the death of an unknown man who fell to his death at Khotso House in Marshalltown.
It is still unclear what really happened, however, emergency services personnel found the man lying motionless with fatal injuries.
According to the Werner Vermaak, a communications officer at ER24, a young man was found with fatal injuries on on the roof of a building on 15 December.
Vermaak said paramedics from ER24 and the Johannesburg fire department arrived on the scene of the apartment building.
“Upon assessment, they found that a man was lying on a roof near the ground floor of the building. The fire department had to assist to gain access to the man. Sadly, there was nothing that could be done for him and he was declared dead,” said Vermaak.
A bystander explained that people near the top floor of the building saw the man lying on the roof below and called security to investigate, he said.
It appears that the man fell from one of the floors of the building, he added.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known and the police have confirmed that an investigation is underway.
Captain Xoli Mbele, the spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station, confirmed they were investigating the case.
“The deceased is not yet identified and we are still waiting for a postmortem report,” said Mbele.
“It is alleged that he jumped from 7th floor down to the first floor of Khotso House. We have only one witness which is a security guard.”
We are not suspecting any foul play yet, concluded Mbele.
