One of four suspects arrested for pointing of firearm and trespassing

HOUGHTON – One suspect was found limping along the street and was arrested by the tactical team.

One of four suspects who attempted to rob residents of a home in Houghton recently appeared in court for pointing of firearm and trespassing.

According to the spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station, Captain Elliot Tshivhase, on the evening of 21 January, a Houghton resident was in his upstairs bathroom when he witnessed four males jump over the wall into his property. “The suspects managed to gain access into the victim’s home as he saw the one suspect holding [something looking like] a towel, hiding something underneath it.”

Tshivhase explained that the victim got dressed and fetched his firearm as he thought it might be a possible housebreaking. “The victim stated that he went to confront the suspects and then the one suspect took out a firearm underneath the towel he was holding.

“The victim then shot four shots at the suspect and one bullet landed on the suspect’s thigh.”

Tshivhase added that the suspects managed to open the gate as three of them managed to escape. “The one suspect who was shot on the thigh was limping as he attempted to escape.

“The victim then contacted the tactical team who found the limping suspect along the street with his firearm. [The suspect] was apprehended and taken to the police station.”

Tshivhase concluded that the victim opened a case of pointing of firearm and trespassing. “The suspect appeared in court on 30 January.”
