Common robberies rife in Parkview

PARKVIEW – A trend of common robberies where thieves steal valuables off tables at restaurants is a cause for concern for both residents and the police.

Parkview police have received numerous reports of common robbery since the beginning of the year.

According to Parkview Police Station spokesperson, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the criminals are targeting restaurants around Greenside (Gleneagles and Greenway roads), Emmarentia (Greenhill Road), Parkhurst (4th Avenue) and Parktown North (7th and 3rd avenues). “One of the suspects walks around checking if the customers have put their cell phones on top of the table,” said Sibeko.

She advised patrons to be vigilant while using cell phones in restaurants as the criminals snatch the phones and drive off in a car.

“Some of the suspects have been arrested and an investigation is ongoing.”

Police are requesting any person with information to contact Parkview Police Station on 011 067 6000 or 086 001 0111.
