Norwood Primary School is now boasting two newly built state-of-the-art Grade R classrooms with exciting amenities to enable the toddlers a ‘learning through playing’ education system.
The new structures, situated away from the main building of the school but close by, were built last year after the provincial education department made the site available to the school.
The facilities have indoor toilets for both boys and girls and the head of the department, Salosh Thangavalu, said both the classrooms were officially opened last year. The facilities are huge and enable children to learn while playing at the same time.
Currently, she said, they have about 43 children registered and learning at the new facilities. “We are very excited about these new classes and the facilities allow teachers to offer a safe and secured learning environment for the children.
“The site was made available to the school by the Gauteng Department of Education and we took advantage of it and introduced Grade R classes which we didn’t have before. We have qualified teachers who have extensive experience in the industry which makes us even more excited.”
Principal Africa Hlongwane has also expressed his joy with the new additions to their school and praised the teachers for the ‘wonderful’ work they do.
Hlongwane emphasised that space is still available for those who might be interested in enrolling their children at the school. “But this will be only on a first-come, first-serve basis.
“I’m also happy that we finally have these structure as well as good quality teachers who provide an essential education to our children.”
The school has a number of edutainment activities planned for this year and both Thangavalu and the principal are confident that this will be a good year for the children at the school.
There will be a science expo, a book day as well as a fun walk which are expected to be held soon on different days at the school.
