Police have arrested an 18-year-old man for armed robbery and are looking for the second suspect after a woman was robbed of her cell phone.
According to the spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station, Captain Molefe Mogodi, the victim was walking with a friend along 5th Street in Marlboro when they were allegedly approached by two unknown men, one of them was armed with a firearm.
“The suspects allegedly threatened the victim while demanding her cellular phone. The victim then handed the phone over to them. The two suspects then got away.
“The police were patrolling the area when they met the victim who informed them that she was robbed and she gave them the description.”
Mogodi explained that while searching the area, the police officers found two men who fit the description of the suspects. “Upon seeing the police officers, the two men began running away and the police gave chase. One suspect was arrested and the other, however, got away.”
The spokesperson added that the stolen phone was recovered and the suspect was then arrested.
“He was taken to police station for detention, as police are looking for the other suspect while the investigation is continuing.”
The 18-year-old man will appear in court regarding the crime.
“The police thanked the taxi driver who at the time stopped and offered to help. We appeal to our community to come up with crime information which can assist police on arresting the perpetrators. Some of the arrests made during the weekend are for fraud and driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.”
