A proud moment for Norwood Primary School top 10 learners

NORWOOD – The foundation phase learners get very excited about receiving a top 10 award.


Norwood Primary School‘s foundation phase top 10 learners were rewarded for their excellent achievements in their first quarter of the academic year on 4 April.

The foundation phase comprises of seven grades and the top achievers are awarded annually with certificates to motivate the children to achieve.

The pass rate for term one at the school in all grades in the foundation phase is 90 per cent.

According to Salosh Frank, head of department in the foundation phase, the Top 10 Academic Awards are a motivation because every learner wants to get a certificate and shine.

Frank said it is a proud moment for any child to go on a stage in front of the entire school and receive an award.

“I have noticed that in the foundation phase learners get very excited about receiving a Top 10 Award and many of them start preparing from the start of the term,” said Frank.

“Learners are awarded with certificates in terms one, two and three and at the end of the year in term four, learners are awarded with a book, a voucher and a trophy.”

He added that the school has an excellent school-based-support system in place to assist learners who do not meet the marks requirements.

The school has remediation lessons for mathematics, English, Afrikaans and the school has an excellent reading programme.
