Police officer wounded after being shot by suspects in Joubert Park

JOUBERT PARK – Two suspects arrested after they shot a police officer in the leg.

A Metro police officer was wounded when four suspects opened fire at officers during a patrol in Joubert Park on 16 May.

The suspects started shooting at the officers when they approached them. The officer was shot in the leg and was taken to Milpark Hospital.

“One officer was injured, unfortunately. He was shot in the leg but he was not seriously injured. He was discharged last night,” said Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.

“Two suspects have been arrested and one illegal firearm was recovered. The suspects are detained at Johannesburg Central Police Station.”

Minnaar said the other two suspects managed to escape among the crowds when the police chased them.
