JOBURG – Top five things to do in Joburg this weekend.

Rest assured, this weekend is dedicated to having fun and celebrating all things Africa as we’re steadily nearing the end of Africa Month. Have fun and kick back at these events.

24 May: Screenings of Rafiki

The Bioscope is set to host a special screening of the anticipated Rafiki ahead of its official release in late June. Directed by Wanuri Kahiu, the film is the first Kenyan project to be invited to Cannes Film Festival 2018 as part of the official Un Certain Regard selection.

25 May: Bassline Fest

Twelve of the continent’s freshest entertainers are set to raise the bar this year when the Bassline Fest returns to celebrate Africa Day on 25 May at Johannesburg’s Constitution Hill. The fest is spearheaded by the Department of Arts & Culture, in association with Radio 2000 & TRACE Africa. Nigeria’s Asá and Mr. Eazi will headline this musical extravaganza. Tickets are available via www.bassline.co.za general access R350, Golden Circle R450 and children under 12 years old R150.

25 May: Jozi Coffee Walking Tour

The Jozi Coffee Walking Tour is back by popular demand. On May 25 explore the Jozi CBD with its coffee shops. Dress comfortably as you’ll be covering 5kms on this caffeinated trail. Book your spot for R180 on info@microadventuretours.co.za.

26 May: And Counting

!Kauru African Contemporary Art presents the 8th edition of its annual Africa Month exhibition series And Counting. The exhibition seeks to engage archives as a means through which to confront issue of collective history/ies while also looking at works that exist outside institutional archives and collections. All programmes and events are free and accessible to the general public.

26 May: Sundays in the Living Room

Come one, come all, to Sunday’s favorite rooftop Jol. Immerse yourself into the Living Room’s world of plants, smiles, laughs and dance.
