Johannesburg Flying Squad police members arrested 16 suspects for different crimes and recovered dangerous weapons in various areas in Johannesburg.
Spokesperson for the squad, senior personnel officer Raymond Sambo said the arrests were made between 24 and 27 May during routine patrols.
According to Sambo, six stolen vehicles, one motorcycle and two unlicensed firearms were recovered during the arrests. Among the recovered cars was a Honda Rav 4, a Range Rover, a Nissan NP200, a Toyota Corolla, a VW Polo, Toyota Etios as well as a Big Boy Mike motorcycle.
“Officers also arrested two suspects for perjury, four others for possession of stolen property, and one for theft as well as another one for indecent assault,” Sambo added.
“Three suspects [were] arrested for dealing in drugs and they remain in custody. We also have one suspect nabbed for possession of stolen vehicle and another two suspects held for possession of stolen motorcycle. The other two face charges of possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and ammunition.”
All those arrested are expected to appear in different courts.
Sambo urges members of the public to continue working with police and report crime and suspicious persons and activities.
