7 June: Market on Main @ 44 Stanley
Market on Main is returning to 44 Stanley on 7 June for another night market pop-up. Dress up warmly and come and enjoy food, drink, music and more! Your favourite market vendors will be scattered around the centre and all the shops and restaurants will be staying open late too.
8 June: Fête de la Musique
On 8 June, the Newtown Cultural Precinct will again come alive as the annual Fête de la Musique festival returns for its eighth edition. From 11 am – 7 pm, French, South African and international music acts will perform at the free music event that has steadily grown in stature and popularity over the years. Headliners include Tidal Waves, Msaki, Darkie Fiction and many more exciting acts. Entrance is free for all.
8 June: World Gin Day
An event not to be missed! This World Gin Day, Ginologist bring you an event to celebrate all things Gin and music on 8 June. Headlined by Mi Casa and hosted by J-Something, you can expect a line-up of musicians that will keep you dancing from 12 pm until you can’t anymore. All of this together with over 10 gourmet food stalls and some of South Africa’s most loved ginsat 1Fox, there is no better way to celebrate world gin day in Joburg! 9 June: Strange Land
Starring Renos Nicos Spanoudes and directed by Jade Bowers, Strange Land follows the story of Dimitri Tsafendas, who in 1966, assassinated Prime Minister Henrik Verwoerd, the founder and architect of Apartheid. The thoroughly researched production is showing at the Market Theatre and presents the possibility that the deeply troubled Tsafendas may have been a sane man living in a strange land.
