Graphic surveillance video shows man being shot in the back numerous times

NEWTOWN – Provincial police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said he could not confirm if the video was the same incident as the one reported this morning where a man’s body was found on a pavement in Newtown.

CCTV footage showing a man being shot in the back several times has gone viral. It is unclear whether it is the same incident that took place this morning, (25 June) where a man was shot and killed on a pavement on Quinn Street, Newtown, Johannesburg

The video, posted by social cohesion activist Yusuf Abramjee on his Twitter page, shows a man in a parking lot. The man takes what appears to be a work bag out of the boot of his car and walks onto the pavement. Another man then appears and proceeds to shoot the man with a bag in the back numerous times. The shooter then runs away.

Ambramjee tweeted the video with the words, “Apparent hit in Newtown Johannesburg today.”

However, Gauteng police spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo said he could not confirm if it was the same incident reported by the North Eastern Tribune, where local authorities found the body of a man, 47, on the pavement in Newtown.

In that incident, the police have opened a case of murder and are on the search for the suspects. The motive is still unknown.

Masondo appealed to the public to contact the police should they have any information relating to the case.
