Suspect arrested for murder in Johannesburg and his accomplices are still at large

JOHANNESBURG – The incident was captured in a CCTV camera.


A man is in police custody and his two accomplices are still at large after they had allegedly murdered another man and robbed him of his cellphone.

The 25-year old suspect was arrested at his work place on the corner of Jeppe and Simmonds streets in the Johannesburg CBD and he is facing charges of murder and robbery.

According to the Johannesburg Central Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele, the suspects were captured by CCTV cameras while robbing and stabbing a 49-year-old male, Lota Lucas Mushwane.

Mbele said the incident happened on the corner of Noord and Twist streets on 30 June. “The victim was walking in the street when the three suspects attacked him and stabbed him once in the upper body.

“They took money and his cellphone. The victim was declared dead by the paramedics on the scene.”

Mbele said the other two suspects are still at large and urges the community to assist with any information regarding their whereabouts.

An investigation is still underway and the arrested suspect is expected to appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
