Police arrest drunk taxi driver for bumping a traffic officer

JOHANNESBURG – Police have arrested a suspect for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Metro police arrested a taxi driver for driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless and negligent driving in the inner-city on 30 July.

The arrest follows after the taxi driver bumped an officer controlling traffic due to the M2 closure.

“The taxi driver bumped the officer and tried to run away but he was arrested,” said Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.

“The driver was arrested for drunk and driving and also for reckless driving. The officer is currently recovering at home because he was discharged last night. Fortunately, the officer didn’t sustain a fracture.”

The suspect was detained at the Johannesburg Central Police Station.
