JOHANNESBURG – Police use rubber bullets to disperse angry crowd in Johannesburg CBD.


Police have clashed with foreign nationals in Johannesburg CBD on 1 August after police vehicles were damaged due to the protest. 

JMPD Chief David Tembe said on Twitter that the foreign nationals attacked the police.

Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent  Wayne Minnaar said the cause of the riot is not known.

“Police vehicles were damaged by the angry protesters. No police officers were injured in the protest,” said Minnaar.

“At this point, we do not know the cause of the riot. No one was arrested. The police had to use rubber bullets to disperse the angry crowd.”
