Visit the #WoofProject at Melrose Arch and give a dog a home
MELROSE – Give a dog a forever home and help the Woof Project set the record for the most dog adoptions by an agency in one day.
Dozens of loving dogs are available for adoption at the Melrose Arch Square this weekend as part of a pop-up adoption centre known as the Woof Project.
Community members who want to give a dog a forever home are encouraged to visit the centre and find a furry friend.

The Woof Project, which is based in Cape Town, has been at Melrose Arch since 6 August.
On 17 August, they aim to set the record for the highest number of dog adoptions by an agency in one day.
The Rosebank Killarney Gazette visited the pop-up centre and spoke to team leader and adoption coordinator Chanel Fourie.
“We are all about creating awareness about shelter dogs and trying to find them homes,” said Fourie.
Dog lovers are encouraged to visit the pop-up shelter between 9am and 5pm before 18 August to meet their furry friend. A home check will be conducted before dogs can be collected.

Dogs at the Melrose Arch Square come from Gauteng-based animal shelters including Woodrock Animal Rescue, Wollies Animal Project, Dogtown and New Hope Rescue.
“We take dogs from the shelters and bring them to public spaces where they can be seen by the public.”
“The project was started by Joanne Lefson two years ago after she took her rescue dog Oscar [who was scheduled to be euthanized if she did not adopt him] to 45 countries to promote dog adoption. After Oscar died, she decided to start the Woof Project since people find it sad and difficult to visit animal shelters. We bring the dogs to public spaces where they are well-behaved and ready to go.”

So far, 42 people have signed up to adopt a dog on 17 August, but they need about 30 more adoptions to set the record.

The Woof Project will be at Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria from 25-25 August and again on 30-31 August before heading to the Jean Crossing in Centurion.
