JMPD Specialised Unit arrests two suspects for double murder

BRAAMFONETIN – Both suspects are alleged to have carried out a gruesome house robbery in Zakariya Park, where Metro police specialised unit tracked them as far as Braamfontein.

Chief of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department David Tembe described on his Facebook page how the JMPD CCTV specialised unit with Freeway Unmarked Unit members was on patrol on the night of 29 August when they received a tip-off about a house robbery at Zakariya Park, Johannesburg that would lead to arrests on the M1 North in Braamfontein.

According to Tembe, two suspects are alleged to have carried out a gruesome house robbery where they murdered the homeowner and the helper, items stolen and a vehicle theft.

After the task team received a tip-off of two suspects, the team tracked the stolen vehicle to the Joburg CBD. Tembe wrote, “Members found the vehicle parked at Jeppe Street corner Sauer Street. Officers observed the vehicle and after 15 minutes of observation, the first suspect entered into the vehicle and started travelling towards Braamfontein.”

Officers followed the vehicle and managed successfully to corner the suspect who complied with officers and revealed that his accomplice was in a taxi going to Limpopo, Tembe explained.

The task team ‘then tracked down the taxi and found it on the M1 Highway where the second suspect was pointed out’.

Spokesperson for the Metro police, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar added that both suspects have been arrested and are being detained at Hillbrow Police Station and have been charged with double murder, possession of a stolen vehicle, as well as theft.
