One alleged robbery suspect is on the run and three others have been arrested by the Bramley police after robbing their victims of their belongings in Kew.
In one incident, police reported that a taxi driver was requested to pick up two passengers in Marlboro but instead was robbed of his cell phone and car keys.
According to the spokesperson for the Bramley police, Captain Molefe Mogodi, this incident occurred on 23 September.
Mogodi said the taxi driver received a call from ‘clients’ to pick them up in Marlboro and on his arrival he found two men who requested to be taken to Kew. On their way, Mogodi said the two men threatened the driver with firearms and demanded his car keys and a cell phone before getting out the vehicle and running away.
“The driver screamed for help and security officers who happened to nearby come to his rescue. One suspect was arrested and the other one managed to flee, and the driver’s cell phone and car keys were recovered from the suspect.”
Mogodi added that a firearm was also recovered with ammunition from the 25-year-old suspect who will be appearing in court soon.
Police are searching for the other suspect and they are requesting any witnesses to assist with any information that might lead to his whereabouts.
In another incident in Kew, the police arrested two men who were allegedly trying to hijack a car on 25 September.
Mogodi said the victim had stopped his car at a gate waiting for a security guard to open for him. “The two suspects approached him and threatened him with a firearm but luckily it jammed.”
He added that one of the suspects failed to start the car and instead they robbed the victim of his cell phone and fled the scene.
The victim screamed for help and the two suspects were apprehended by members of the community who then handed them to the police together with the firearm and ammunition.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
