The two suspects, aged 26 and 27, are have been arrested in connection with a robbery in the Marlboro area. The suspects allegedly approached the victim when he was walking along Old Pretoria Road near the highway.
One of the suspects allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened the victim during an incident which occurred in the morning of Wednesday, 9 October.
According to Bramley Police Station spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi, the victim was overpowered by the two suspects who ultimately managed to get away with his cell phone.
“The victim then saw Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers on the corners of Marlboro Drive and M1 freeway and approached them for help,” he said.
They then got in the JMPD’s vehicle and embarked on a search of the suspects. When the victim spotted the two men, he alerted the police. “Two suspects were then arrested and detained at Bramley Police Station. We appreciate the actions of the victim for putting his trust in the law enforcement officers. Our crime intelligence office will profile them to find out whether they have been involved in the crime in the area or elsewhere,” said Mogodi.
Meanwhile, during the previous week’s operation O kae Molao in the same area, police arrested 13 offenders who were allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
“The integrated operation which consists of JMPD and police will continue to clean up our streets so that our community can start to feel safe,” he said.
