The 24-year-old beat KwaZulu-Natal’s Sneziey Msomi in a tightly-contested finale which saw Yiba perform Jong Legend’s Greenlight while Msomi covered Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse’s Burnout. The finalists also delivered a serenading rendition of Leona Lewis and Calum Scott’s You are the Reason.
Yiba’s win also saw him walk away with a recording deal from Gallo Records, and also become an instant millionaire, with R1 million in cash and a Ford Fiesta, among other prizes.
Adding to the night’s festivities were amapiano duo, Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa who delivered explosive sets of their summertime hits alongside Samthing Soweto, Sha Sha and Nokwazi. South Africa’s hottest acts, DJ Zinhle, Boity, Vusi Nova, Sho Madjozi and Season 14, Idols SA winner, Yanga also took to the stage to perform some of their biggest hits.
