Two suspects arrested after shoot-out with police in Jeppe

JEPPE – Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the police's quick response.


Gauteng police responded to a tip-off of two suspicious vehicles parked on the pavement on Berea Road in Jeppe on the evening of 9 February.

The suspects noticed the police and allegedly started shooting at the officers while trying to flee the scene. Gauteng police spokesperson, Captain Kay Makhubele said, “The members noticed the cars and suspects started shooting at the police, members returned fire, two suspects were shot and arrested. One suspect later died, the second suspect was taken to hospital.”

Gauteng Commissioner of the SAPS, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the quick response by the police, who recovered two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspects are set to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
