Community patrollers catch one suspect for armed robbery at Park Station

JOBURG CBD – The two female victims had just arrived from Johannesburg Park Station when they were approached by five male suspects.

The Johannesburg Central Police Station together with community patrollers arrested a 45-year-old suspect for armed robbery at the corner of De Villiers Street and Eloff Street in Joburg CBD on 18 February.

Spokesperson for the Central Police, Captain Xoli Mbele said, “It is alleged that five suspects robbed two females between the age of 36 and 42. The victims were dropped off by a bus at Johannesburg Park Station coming from Zimbabwe.”

Two out of the five suspects threatened them with knives, took R800 cash and a cell phone.  “Community patrollers came to their rescue and apprehended one suspect. They recovered the knife used in the commission of the crime.”

Only R200 was recovered and four suspects managed to flee the scene.

The suspect will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court and an investigation is underway.
