Joburg Cluster police arrests 136 suspects during weekend operation

JOBURG –

Johannesburg Cluster police had successful crime prevention operations from 20 to 22 March, arresting 136 suspects in various areas which included Brixton, Fairland, Sophiatown and Johannesburg Central.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station Captain Xoli Mbele said, “Among the suspects who were arrested during the operations,  four suspects were arrested for rape, three for carjacking, four for business robbery, two for murder, 10 for domestic violence, two for possession of unlicensed firearms, six for theft out of motor vehicles, four for common robbery and six for possession of suspected stolen property.”

The other suspects were arrested for committing other crimes such as common assault, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, theft, fraud, shoplifting and possession of drugs.

Mbele said most of the suspects would appear in various magistrates’ courts.
