Police arrested a 36-year-old man for attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The arrest was made on 25 July at Loch Avenue and Napier Road in Parktown.
According Parkview Police Station spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, Parkview police members were patrolling in Greenside when they spotted male suspects attempting to steal a Toyota Quantum. “One of the suspects was in the middle of the road pointing a firearm towards the police, the suspects jumped inside their car and drove away. A chase and then a shooting ensued and three suspects were shot and wounded while one was arrested. An ambulance was called and the paramedics declared the three suspects dead,” Sibeko described.
The arrested suspect, who was not injured was in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Sibeko added that through further investigation it was discovered that the suspects were driving in a vehicle with false registration numbers. “Two vehicle jammers, a crowbar, housebreaking implements and car breaking implements and different car keys were found inside the suspects’ car. The police are investigating a case of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”
