Uitkoms Home for Girls has issued a challenge to the community to purchase combo food hampers for the home.
The Observatory charity has not been able to host any of its annual fundraisers, including its golf day, quiz evening and women’s breakfast, due to the pandemic.
The home’s biggest needs are still financial donations to pay bills and take care of the vulnerable girls in their care.
Through a partnership between Uitkoms and WeCan, the community can purchase combo food hampers for the home for R106 although the hampers combo is valued at R161.965.
“Please help us by purchasing a combo or two, challenging your friends, family or colleagues to do the same and asking them to share it with their contacts,” the home asked in a statement.
“Thanks for your ongoing support of our home, without you we would not be able to make a difference in the lives of our girls. Lockdown regulations have been challenging for us over the past five months and as with most other organisations, it had a negative effective on our finances as well.
“A big thank you to everyone who has made donations, financial and goods, during these trying times. It really means the world to us. Thanks to everyone that nominated us for the Dischem Foundation’s Random Acts of Kindness during Women’s Month. We received a cash donation and they will also supply us with toiletries to the value of R2 000 per month for a year.”
Items can be delivered to 1140 St George’s Road, Observatory, any time between 8am and 4pm.
