Norwood SAPS arrests suspect for dealing in drugs and bribery
ORANGE GROVE – The suspect is scheduled to appear in court in due course.
Norwood police arrested a suspect for dealing drugs and bribery on June 20.
A spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station, Sergeant Eric Masotsha said at about 14:30 on June 20, members of Norwood SAPS spotted a suspicious man on the corner of Louis Botha Avenue and 9th Street, Orange Grove.
Masotsha added that after the man spotted the marked police van, he started walking and looked very suspicious.
“Police stopped him, introduced themselves and asked to search him and permission was granted,” said Masotsha.
He added that five small packets of a green substance known as nyaope were found in the suspect’s possession.
“When asked what he was doing with the substances, he told the officers that he was selling for a living and offered to give the officers R100 to not arrest him.”
The suspect was subsequently arrested for dealing in drugs and bribery.
“We warn our loyal community to refrain from running illegal businesses and trying to defeat the ends of justice.”
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court in due course.
Masotsha encouraged community members to report any illegal gambling, dealing in drugs or suspicious activity on 011 483 4600/09.
