Norwood Saps arrest hijacker following tip-off

MARYVILLE – The recovered vehicle was taken to Aeroton for safe keeping as the investigation is still underway.


Norwood police arrested a car hijacker following an incident that took place in Bramley.

Spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station Sergeant Eric Masotsha said on December 28 at 20:00, Norwood police arrested the suspect in possession of a red Mercedes-Benz that was hijacked in Maryville.

Masotsha said, “I can confirm after a tip-off was given to police that one suspect was arrested while driving the car which was [hijacked] from the owner at gunpoint in Bramley.”

He said the suspect was detained at the Norwood cells and had been charged for being in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

The recovered vehicle was taken to Aeroton for safe keeping as the investigation was still underway.

The suspect had already appeared in court where his bail was denied.

“We thank our police members and community members who worked together until the perpetrator was registered in our books.”

He encouraged locals to report all criminal activities on 080 001 0111 or 011 483 4609/14.
