Keep cars and drivers safe
PARKVIEW – Tips to keep you, your car and valuables as safe as possible.
Police hosted a crime awareness campaign focused on the theft of/out of and from motor vehicles.
Parkview Police Station shared crucial safety tips and information with members of the public in their policing precinct on March 11.
On the day, led by Station Commander of Parkview Colonel Devan Govender, members of the station handed out pamphlets to the community warning them against various crimes in the area.
A special emphasis was placed on shopping centres where information on the theft of/out of and from a motor vehicle was shared along with prevention tips to avoid being a victim of such.

The centre management was approached concerning crimes committed and the station commander was introduced.
Police share the following tips to keep you, your vehicle and belongings safe:
- Avoid parking your motor vehicle where there are no security officers guarding cars
- Don’t stop or park in dark areas, park where there is proper lighting
- Don’t sit in a stationary vehicle for long periods of time
- Don’t let valuables be visible in the vehicle, put them in the boot
- Do not park in front of your gate, rather park parallel to give yourself a chance to drive off if a suspicious vehicle park behind you or tries to block you
- Be conscious of your surroundings when pulling out of your driveway or coming home late
- Close your windows when driving in congested areas
- Plan the route that you will use and if you are not sure about an area phone a police station for advice
- Do not leave keys in the ignition
- Do not open windows for hawkers at robots
- Keep doors locked at all times
- Try to fit an alarm and/or an anti-theft device in your car.
