Police bust suspect of rape in Bagleyston

BAGLEYSTON – Suspect was reportedly an ex-boyfriend of the rape victim.

Norwood police reported that an ex-boyfriend is behind bars for rape. Spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said on April 12, at about 03:00, the victim was walking along Valerie Crescent in Bagleyston when the ex-boyfriend grabbed her from behind and pushed her to the ground following an argument.

“He took off the complainant (underwear) and raped her. After he had done so he ran away and left the victim helplessly screaming for help until the neighbourhood residents called the police. The victim was taken to the hospital for medical examination. Various means were applied to trace the suspect and he was arrested the following day at about 15:30,” said Sergeant Masotsha.

He added that the suspect was detained with no visible injuries. The suspect will appear before the court of law in due course for rape. Sergeant Masotsha concluded, “We urge members of the public, especially those who were lovers before, not to use force to engage in sexual intercourse otherwise they will face the full might of the law.”
