Remarkable achievement for hip-hop group
A Parktown Girls hip-hop group takes gold at the National Eisteddfod’s Young Performers Awards.
The hip-hop team, Labyrinth, won the gold medal and a grand prize of R10 000 at the National Eisteddfod’s Young Performers Awards.
The team from Parktown High School for Girls received the award on May 7. According to Kerry Liss, marketing and communications manager at Parktown High School for Girls, this is a truly remarkable achievement as the winning pieces have been predominantly solo performances in past years.
Liss said, “Not only did the team do brilliantly but there were several dancers who entered solo and trio performances and did very well. Mikaela Eksteen made it to the semi-final round for her solo piece and Bonolo Matshe, Lesedi Mbentse and Relive Nkole also made the semi-final round for their trio piece.
“The hip-hop dancers have worked very hard, and we are extremely proud of their achievements. We look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future!”
