Appreciation for contributors towards Slipper Day
Non-governmental organisation Reach for A Dream appreciates contributors with certificates.
The Reach for A Dream Foundation hosted an event to express gratitude for contributions towards their biggest annual campaign.
The Slipper Day Thank You event was held in Linksfield on June 23.
Chairman of Reach for A Dream Mervyn Serebro said the foundation was grateful on behalf of the children. Being voted South Africa’s best non-governmental organisation, among over 100 remarkable institutions, enhanced the foundation’s credibility according to the chairman.

He said, “When I reflect back on this foundation 20 years ago, how different it was then, the journey has been a product of Julia Sotirianakos [foundation CEO] who is a conductor of an orchestra of the likes of which is unimaginable; and Natalie Lazaris [business head] who, particularly for this event, is exemplary.”

Serebro recalled when they started Slipper Day in KwaZulu-Natal. “It had a ring to it and we figured it had legs but we never imagined eight million of them (legs). Perhaps next year, at our 35th anniversary, we might reach 10 million and we can only do that because of you.”
He thanked all who found the time to participate in the foundation’s activities despite the challenging past two years. “Those who have engaged with our children, you will understand how significant a difference you make within each of their lives. Regardless of what the interaction is with that child and family, just the fact that people who aren’t in white coats show love, compassion and real concern is remarkable.

“When I reflect on our Dream Room project which we launched at our 30th anniversary, we asked that our new concept be supported. I think we funded 12 dream rooms that particular night and we now have 33. Each of those is specific to the particular age group, each of them caters exclusively to children of varying ages. For a brief moment in that space our children come alive and feel like regular kids again. Each of you are very special and appreciated,” Serebro concluded.
The foundation’s retail partners Pick n Pay, Dis-Chem, Wimpy, ToyZone and Baby City as well as the foundation’s associates were honoured with certificates for their donation and contribution to the Slipper Day campaign.
