Ward councillors gives feedback on the state of Region B

Wards 99, 102 and 104 councillors address the residents on the state of Region B and share their concerns on the lack of service delivery

Residents of wards 99, 102 and 104 gathered at the Blairgowrie Recreation Centre for a meeting with councillors to discuss the state of Region B.

Region B also covers parts of Hyde Park, Dunkeld, Westcliff, Greenside, Rosebank and Parktown.

The meeting was attended by ward councillors Nicole van Wyk, Lucinda Harman and Emi Koekemoer. The residents came out in numbers to discuss issues of lack of service delivery in Region B and follow up on other issues they have raised before in their areas.

While some used the platforms to address their issues, others praised their councillors for being on the ground and fighting for services. They also urged each other to understand what the councillors go through every day to fight for their wards.

Among the issues that were raised was the sewer problem, Joburg Water and JRA’s failed reinstatements issues, City Power problems of theft and vandalism, and the Randburg CBD construction phase that is causing heavy traffic during peak hours.

Ward 102 councillor Lucinda Harman explained that they had to talk about the three key matters of roads, electricity and water. that are not attended to at all.

“These three entities are failing the city and rate payers. The biggest money coming in from rate payers in the whole City of Joburg comes from Region B. The highest rate payers are getting the worse service which is worrying to see. I hope the people that attended benefitted and learned from the meeting.”

She urges residents to register and to go out and vote in the next coming elections. “If people want change, they must get out and go vote because if not, nothing is going to change and it will never be a quick fix no matter who will take over but with time things will change.”

The councillors reminded the residents to follow the right processes when dealing with the entities and then follow up with councillors if things are not being done so that they can escalate the issues.

“The frustrations are there and are real. When I look at the state of Ward102, it does worry me a lot. For instance, the level of not cutting grass and servicing the roads – in Ward 102 alone there are more than 178 potholes and counting,” added Harman.
