Local NPO hosts its third annual solution-based conference

The 'I AM ME' conference focused on two marginalised communities, and highlighted individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community and persons with disabilities.

The Modern Community Foundation, a Rosebank-based NPO, hosted the third annual ‘I AM ME’ conference on April 15 at The Marriott Hotel, Melrose Arch.

South African corporations joined the ‘I AM ME’ conference to find solutions for people living with disabilities and the LGBTQIA+ community.

The event focused on two marginalised communities, with a specific highlight on individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community and persons with disabilities. The conference delved into crucial topics such as diversity, inclusivity, transformation, and empowerment within the workplace.

Co-founder and managing director of Modern Community Foundation, Revel Harris said the conference stood as a beacon of hope for individuals who often found themselves on the fringes of society.

“By shining a light on the LGBTQIA+ community and persons with disabilities, the conference seeks to create a platform for dialogue, understanding, and progress. It aims to address the unique challenges faced by groups of people and explore ways to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment.”

Several stakeholders have stepped up to sponsor this important initiative. Their support underscored a growing recognition within the business community of the need to champion diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of society.

Stakeholders aligning themselves with the I AM ME Conference means the companies are demonstrating their commitment to social responsibility and setting an example for others to follow.

One of the key themes of the conference was transformation in the workplace.

Attendees will have the chance to explore how organisations can become more welcoming and supportive of marginalized groups through engaging workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities.

By fostering a culture of empowerment and respect, businesses can harness the full potential of their diverse workforce and drive innovation and success.
