Wanderers Club gymnasts, Sibusiso Zulu and Kadin Chester prepare to represent the club proudly at the Africa Championships in Morocco at the end of April.

Sibusiso said he was spotted to be a gymnast while he was doing cartwheels and playing in a park by retired national coach Grahame Fidler.

“Fidler spoke to my mother and I have been a gymnast since I was 9 years old. Fidler believed the best club for me would be Wanderers and introduced me to the club in 2020.”

The 17-year-old trains six days a week for 26 hours in total.

He added that there was little time to socialise, but that was the sacrifice he made to be number one and be a good gymnast.

SA Junior Protea Gymnast 2024, Kadin Chester.

“Juggling school work and training is very difficult. It would have been impossible if I hadn’t enrolled at a school in Wanderers, which is a private school that works around my training schedule.”

Kadin Chester who will be joining Sibusiso at the Africa Championships said, “Morocco will be my last junior African championship because I turn senior at the end of 2025. My goal is to finish top three in the all-around competition.”

Kadin added that he had aspirations of working hard to earn a gymnastics scholarship abroad. “In that way, there is the possibility of making the 2028 Olympics.”
