A local community has come together in an inspiring act of kindness to support a child.

In an inspiring show of kindness and unity, the Norwood community has come together to support an abandoned child in need.
The child, who arrived with nothing but the clothes on his back, has been met with an overwhelming outpouring of generosity from neighbours and well-wishers.

Jackie van der Westhuizen, who has taken the little one into her care, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the support received. “Words cannot fully capture how grateful we are. The love and kindness shown to this child have been nothing short of miraculous,” she said.

Donations of clothing and other essentials have poured in, providing the child with much-needed comfort and a sense of belonging. According to Van der Westhuizen, the contributions, whether big or small, have had a tangible impact on his life. “To see him finally have clothes that fit, to witness the joy it brings him, it’s truly special.”

Beyond the material support, the community has also extended emotional encouragement. Messages of solidarity, friendly smiles, and offers of assistance have reassured Van der Westhuizen that she is not alone in this journey. “This experience has shown us the true meaning of community. The way everyone has come together reminds us of the power of compassion and unity.”

The overwhelming response highlights the strength of human kindness in times of need. As Van der Westhuizen so aptly put it, “More than anything, we want people to know that their support is changing the life of a vulnerable child.”
