Trench work causes disruption at busy Rosebank Junction

Roadworks at Jan Smuts and 7th Avenue raise concerns for pedestrians and motorists.

A trench has been left open at the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and 7th Avenue in Rosebank, creating a noticeable obstruction near the busy intersection.

The area, which is cordoned off with tape, shows signs of ongoing or unfinished excavation work, with loose soil and construction debris visible on the pavement and spilling slightly into the road. The site currently lacks clear signage to indicate the reason for the dig or any projected completion date.

Motorists have been forced to navigate cautiously around the area, while pedestrians, particularly those with mobility challenges, are struggling to pass safely.

It is believed that the trench may be part of maintenance or infrastructure upgrades, possibly involving Johannesburg Water.

This publication is in contact with Joburg Water and will update the story once an official comment is received.
