The leak on Jan Smuts will soon come to an end

Johannesburg Water will backfill the excavation at the entrance of McDonald’s in Craighall this week.

Johannesburg Water confirmed to the Gazette on August 26 that the excavation at the entrance of McDonald’s in Craighall Park was the source of the leak on Jan Smuts Avenue.

The Gazette, on July 25, reported about a persistent leak on Jan Smuts Avenue that was closer to the surface and had worsened.

We also reported that blue pipes were left on the side of the excavation after the water utility claimed that repairs and backfilling were completed.

The spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, Nombuso Shabalala, explained that a leak detection team located the leak.

“The leak will be attended to accordingly, and the team is planning for repairs to be completed by the end of the week. Johannesburg Water will also backfill the excavation at the entrance of McDonald’s this week.”
