Parktown equestrian gallops her way into 2nd place at Sanesa
Parktown High School for Girls equestrian, Jessica Taggart, is preparing to compete in Nationals, which will take place in October
Parktown High School for Girls equestrian, Jessica Taggart, galloped her way into 2nd place for the Johannesburg Central A Team in both 90cm classes at the recent South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) Regional Competition.
The 14-year-old started horse riding in Grade 3, but started competing when she moved to Phaeton Park Stables in Grade 7.

“I have always wanted that bond between the rider and the horse, and the adrenaline rush you get when riding. I try to ride twice a week since it is always a challenge to ride during the week due to school sports.”
Jessica explained that the 90cm classes she competed in were a showjumping course set at a height of 90cm.

“The first class is A2, which means it is two rounds, the first round you must go clear and then the second round is speed. The second class is A1, which means it is one round based on time.
The equestrian added that she enjoyed competing at Sanesa, and it was the only competitive show she had competed in.
“It is amazing, I love everything about competing, especially the thrill when your bell goes.”
Jessica’s accolades include:
- Riding for Parktown High School for Girls.
- Representing the Johannesburg A team at Regionals for both 80cm showjumping classes.
- Representing the Gauteng B team at Nationals for one 80cm showjumping class.
- Jessica’s team placed first at Nationals, and she placed 8th individually.
