Sixteen people injured during taxi collision in Houghton

No one knows what happened in the taxi collision but local authorities are investigating.

Two taxis full of people collided with one another on Thursday, January 12 on Boundary Road in Houghton.

Sixteen people were injured as a result of the collision and four of those were critically injured.

According to the communications officer for ER24 Russel Meiring, when ER24 and other services arrived, they found two vehicles on the side of the road. He says the passengers had already climbed out of the vehicles and were seated along the pavement.

“Medics assessed the patients and found four adults in critical condition while twelve others had sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe. The patients were treated and provided with advanced life-support interventions before they were transported to nearby hospitals for further care,” Meiring said.

Local authorities were present at the scene for further investigations.
